Waylon Sims
Director, Prowire Group, Prowire Technologies and Prowire Fabrication
Most industrial jobs need a designer, a civil contractor, a fabricator and an electrician. With Prowire it's one contract and one project manager from concept to completion.
Design team
Site survey and scope, then design across all three trades: civil layouts, structural steel and fabrication drawings, and electrical design. Everything drawn in CAD before we start.
Prowire Civil
Excavation, trenching, footings, conduit, pits and plinths, set out to the overall design so the steel and services line up later.
Prowire Fabrication
Structural steel, platforms, pipework, tanks, cable ladder, supports and frames, fabricated in our Ulverstone workshop and ready for site.
Prowire Technologies
HV and LV electrical, switchboards, MCCs and control panels, instrumentation and fibre. Boards are built in our Ulverstone workshop and factory acceptance tested before they leave.
All three divisions
Our crews pour footings, erect steel, install pipework, pull and terminate cable, and fit off. One site team, one program, one safety system.
All three divisions
Compaction and civil testing, weld inspection and pressure testing, electrical testing and energisation, then commissioning with your operators.
Ongoing
As-builts, test results and O&M manuals at handover. We stay on for maintenance, breakdowns and future upgrades.

We have bases in Ulverstone and Hobart, and our crews work all over Tasmania. We bring our own vehicles, plant and crane, and run remote and island jobs the same way we run jobs down the road.

Mine sites on the West Coast, food processors in the North West, utilities in the north and south, and port works on the Mersey. A lot of our clients run 24/7, so we plan shutdowns and after-hours work around production. Some of the businesses we work with:

With no safety, there is no job.
Site-specific plans, SWMS and prestarts on every job, across all three divisions.Every job is a reflection of the person who did it.
Built to Australian Standards, tested, inspected and documented before handover. We are trained in all aspects of the industry.
Electrical, fabrication and civil expertise under one roof. The right person when you need them.
Our own crews, plant and workshop, working statewide.Prowire Group is an electrical, fabrication and civil contractor based in Ulverstone. We deliver projects turnkey, from concept to completion, anywhere in Tasmania. We’re built on three things: trust, excellence and integrity.
Waylon Sims started Prowire Technologies in Ulverstone in 2014 as an industrial electrical contractor and switchboard builder. For the next ten years we built our name on mine sites, food plants, utilities and industrial sites across Tasmania.
As the work grew, clients kept asking us to handle the steelwork on their jobs too. Rather than keep subcontracting it, we formed Prowire Group in 2024 and launched Prowire Fabrication alongside the electrical business, with Jake Rice joining as a director to lead it. Prowire Civil followed, so we could do our own trenching, conduit and pits.
Today all three divisions work out of our Fieldings Way workshop under one team. That means we can take a project from design and civil works through fabrication, installation, commissioning and handover, all under one contract.
We employ more than 70 local technicians and can call on a wider pool of over 200 people for bigger jobs. We train our own apprentices, and many of our crew have been with us since the early days.

Electrical. HV and LV installation, industrial and commercial electrical, instrumentation and controls, fibre and data. We design and build our own switchboards and MCCs in Ulverstone and factory test them before they go to site.
Fabrication. Structural steel, platforms, pipework, tanks, conveyors and machinery. Our welders are qualified to documented weld procedures, and we install what we build.
Civil. Earthworks, trenching, conduit, pits and plinths. Our civil crew works to the full project design, so footings, services and conduit are in the right place for the steel and electrical work that follows.
Turnkey. Put the three together and we can run a job from design to handover. One contract, one project manager, one program and one safety system, with test results, as-builts and O&M manuals at the end.
Four values sit behind every job we do.

With no safety, there is no job.
Every job has a site-specific plan, SWMS and daily prestarts, whether it’s HV switching, a crane lift, hot work or deep excavation. Our crews are trained and ticketed for the work they do, and every division runs under the one safety system.

Every job is a reflection of the person who did it.
We start by understanding what the client needs. Then we build to the relevant Australian Standards, whether that’s a switchboard, a weld or a compacted trench, and hand over test results, inspection records and as-builts.

We are trained in all aspects of the industry.
Our people cover electrical, fabrication and civil work, from design and drafting through to construction, commissioning and maintenance. That means practical advice early in a project and fewer surprises on site.

The right person when you need them.
The right people, equipment and procedures. We own our own cranes, excavators, workshop machinery and test gear, and we turn up when we say we will.

Our team is electricians, apprentices, boilermakers, welders, plant operators, supervisors, designers and project managers. They live and work in communities right across Tasmania, and many have worked on the same sites for years.
We put on apprentices every year and pay for training and tickets as people take on more. A lot of our crew started with us as apprentices or joined early and stayed.
For bigger jobs we can draw on a pool of more than 200 people, including trusted subcontractors we’ve worked with for a long time.

Our workshop at 23–25 Fieldings Way, Ulverstone, is where we build switchboards and MCCs, fabricate steel and pipework, and prepare gear for site. It has overhead cranes, a jib crane and space for large builds and factory acceptance testing.
We keep our own Franna crane, excavators, trench rollers, cable gear and calibrated test equipment, so we can mobilise quickly without waiting on hire. See our equipment.

Prowire Technologies
Prowire Technologies delivers HV and LV electrical work for mining, food processing, utilities, ports and industry across Tasmania. Our electricians, instrument technicians and switchboard builders take a job from design through to energisation, and every board is factory tested in our Ulverstone workshop before it goes to site.
We plan around live plant and production, write clear isolation and energisation procedures, and hand over full test results, as-builts and O&M manuals. When something needs attention later, the same team that built it comes back to look after it.
HV installation, cable jointing and termination, switching and energisation. We write the energisation procedures and isolation registers and run the switching on the day.
Power, instrumentation and control for process plants, mines and food production. Installed so it can be maintained, with full documentation at handover.

Groundwork for power, communications and industrial sites. Our civil and electrical crews plan the job together, so conduit and pits end up where the cable needs to go. Available on its own or as part of a turnkey package.
Prowire Civil
Prowire Civil handles earthworks, trenching, conduit, pits, plinths and footings for power, communications and industrial sites around Tasmania. We run our own excavators, rollers and set-out gear, so we control the program and the quality of the work.
Our civil crews work alongside our electricians and fabricators, so conduit, pits and footings are set out to suit the cable, steel and equipment that follow. We leave sites compacted, tidy and ready for the next trade.
Site prep, excavation, bulk earthworks and trenching, with our own excavators and rollers.

We build the power, steel and civil infrastructure Tasmania runs on. We’re also changing how we run our own business to cut emissions and waste.

Prowire Group is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our work across all three divisions. We aim to use energy efficiently, reduce emissions from our fleet and plant, cut waste on every job and help our clients do the same.
We see sustainability as part of doing the job properly. It sits alongside safety and quality in how we plan, build and hand over our work, and we review our progress each year.
We’re replacing our diesel utes with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) utes as they come up for renewal. Much of our daily driving between sites and the workshop is short trips, which PHEVs cover on battery.
Tasmania’s grid runs on renewable energy, mostly hydro and wind. Charging our vehicles and battery tools here means lower emissions than burning diesel on site.
Most of our hand tools are now cordless battery tools, cutting generator use on site. We choose battery or electric plant where it suits the job.
Our electrical, fabrication and civil crews work on the infrastructure that connects renewable energy, from HV cable corridors to switchrooms and substations.
We help clients cut energy and material use: efficient lighting, drives and switchboards, steelwork designed to use less material, and civil works planned to reuse spoil on site where possible.
We plan jobs to reduce offcuts and packaging, reuse cable drums and pallets, and recycle scrap steel and copper.
Our people live across Tasmania and our workshop is in Ulverstone, so crews and materials travel less to get to site.
Our roadmap to net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions across Prowire Group.
We’re always after good tradespeople and apprentices.
Work across the state. Mining, food processing, ports and utilities, from the North West to the West Coast, Launceston, Hobart and the islands. Home base is Ulverstone.
Variety. Workshop builds one week, site work the next, across electrical, fabrication and civil. With three divisions there's always something different on.
Training. We pay for training and tickets across all three trades, from welding, rigging and plant tickets to HV switching. We put on apprentices every year.
Good gear. Our own workshop, vehicles and plant.
A lot of our crew have been here since day one.
Prowire Group is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on skills, attitude and ability to do the job safely, regardless of gender, age, background, culture, religion, sexuality or disability.
We welcome applications from women in trades, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, mature-age workers and people changing careers. If you need adjustments during the application process, let us know.
Send us the site, scope and timing, plus any drawings. We'll get back to you with the right person from the right division. We work anywhere in Tasmania, including King and Flinders Islands.
